NPower Gala
The opportunity
We were asked to build out a set of guidelines for NPower’s first virtual gala held in 2020.
NPower is a philanthropy whose mission is to create pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for military veterans and young adults from underserved communities. Every year NPower holds a gala, but in 2020 the world was in lockdown. Instead of cancelling the event, they pivoted and strove to hold their first virtual event.
Far from being a begrudged necessity, NPower saw their first virtual gala as an unprecedented opportunity to bring people together across the country and beyond to celebrate successes, to network and to raise funds for the year ahead. We created an exciting, unexpected experience. But at its heart, it was all about getting together in the same spirit that drives NPower’s work day after day, year after year: a desire to re-imagine the role that military veterans and young adults from underserved communities will play in the future of tech.
The work
“Join us for a night of building new pathways to opportunities” was the gala’s call to action. The tone of the work is energized, fun and connected. It demonstrates NPower’s commitment to making a difference throughout it’s 19 year history, hopeful in the face of barriers. It’s meant to inspire, to show NPower as a light in the darkness.
The graphics use abstract and playful representations of circuitry, which represent the “pathways to opportunities” portion of our call to action. We used stories and human faces to connect the viewer to NPower’s important work and we built a robust system of usage for the graphical elements in digital and print environments.
